#LochteGate The Truth! Ryan Lochte v/s Rio

Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Coger and Jimmy Feigen the four members of the United States swimming team were involved in an incident early Sunday. This story was reported by Fox News when Ryan Lochte contacted his mother, Ileana Lochte and narrated his ‘terrifying’ experience. The International Olympic Committe(IOC) spokesperson Mark Adams denied it completely to the reporters in Rio saying that “The story is absolutely not true”. After which Ileana Lochte reiterated her statement, this time more profusely saying “They just took their wallets and basically that was it,” Ms Lochte told USA Today.  “I think they’re all shaken up.”  Hours later, Ryan Lochte himself provided a statement to NBC news saying

“we got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing, just a police badge and they pulled us over. They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground. They got down on the ground. I refused, I was like, ‘We didn’t do anything wrong, so I’m not getting down on the ground.’”

He further added

“Then the guy pulled out his gun,” Lochte said. “He cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, ‘Get down!’ and I put my hands up, I was like, ‘Whatever.’ He took our money, he took my wallet. He left my cell phone, he left my credentials.”

With this knowledge and an already pre bias against Rio, it was almost confirmed that this will become a high security incident probably overshadowing the Zika Virus that turned the swimming pool water magically green and it was a very bad idea to have Olympics in the third world criminal hub.

The next day the incident took a complete U turn when it was declared by Rio authorities that they did not believe in the statement of the US swimmers and called it a lie. They were two main reasons for this, firstly when all the four swimmers spoke to the Brazilian Civil Police they told them that that they didn’t remember the specifics as they all were intoxicated. Secondly, as per the CCTV footage “one of the swimmer was seen breaking down the door to the bathroom at the gas station and fighting with a security guard” reported the police official to the ABC news. They Brazilian Judge Keyla Blanc de Cnop pointed out , “you can see the supposed victims arriving without signs of being physically or psychologically shaken, even joking amongst themselves.” when they arrived back to the club based on the CCTV footage evidence.

The nail in the coffin came when two swimmers Gunnar Bentz and Jack Cogner when detained at the Rio Airport told the officials that the story was fabricated and the gunpoint robbery never happened. The true version of the story as reported by NPR is as follows..

The swimmers were heading back to the Athletes Village after a late-night party. But then, Rashomon-like, come the variations. In one version, the athletes wrecked the station’s bathroom; in another, they urinated in public after arguing with station workers. In both of those accounts, the scene ends with an argument about paying for the damage. This is the reason why the police (not fake) were actually there.

We do know based on few interviews of Ryan Lochte that he is a bit of a character himself.  For example the montage of interviews below with over 3 Million views and comments like “This guy is a great athlete but dumb as fuck.” and “he’s like brando without the intellect.”

The swimmers if found guilty by court could face punishment ranging from fine to expulsion for dishonesty or fraud. Though Rio 2016 spokesman said that “Let’s give these kids a break. Sometimes you take actions that you later regret. They are magnificent athletes,” and further added “Lochte is one of the best swimmers of all times. They had fun. They made a mistake. It’s part of life. Life goes on. Let’s go.”

Do you think that this 32 year old “Kid” deserves an excuse or he should be punished?

One interesting thing we noted around the internet is the general public reaction. When on Sunday it was reported that four American athletes claim they were robbed everyone said, “Brazil is a third world shithole and everyone who lives there is a criminal piece of shit.” and when it was reported that they smashed up a gas station and started a fight and then lied to cover it up, everyone says Gee, this is confusing, we should probably wait to hear more information before we judge anyone about it.” We live in very nauseating times.
